چکیده
Eleven flayones, including cochliophi]in A and a chromone, were chemically prepared to determine the attracting activity for zoospores of Aphanoayees eochtioitles, a causative fungus ef spinach root rot. Analyses of the structure-activity relationship of each revea]ed a significant correlation between the zoospore attracting a ¢ tivity and the A-ring oxygenation at C-5 and C-7 in the fiavone skeleton. The relative attractancy ef four regio-isomers of IV-trans-feruloyl 4-O-methyldopamine, which was identified as a zoospore attractant specific to another host plant ( VIenopedium athum, was also examined.

Variation in chemotactic preferences of Aphanomyces cochlioides zoospores to flavonoids.
The zoospores of the phytopathogenic Aphanomyces cochlioides are chemotactically attracted by a host-specific flavone, cochliophilin A (5-hydroxy-6,7-methylenedioxyflavone), and repelled from the mammalian estrogens or estrogenic compounds. This study further examined the responses of A. cochlioides zoospores to some flavonoids structurally related to cochliophilin A or compounds known as phyto...
متن کاملSecondary metabolites from nonhost plants affect the motility and viability of phytopathogenic Aphanomyces cochlioides zoospores.
The motile zoospores of the damping-off pathogen Aphanomyces cochlioides aggregate on host plants (e.g., sugar beet, spinach) guided by the host-specific plant signal cochliophilin A before infection. To assess the potential role of secondary metabolites in nonhost resistance, acetone extracts of 200 nonhost traditional medicinal plants from Chinese and Bangladeshi origins were tested for the m...
متن کاملRepellent activity of estrogenic compounds toward zoospores of the phytopathogenic fungus Aphanomyces cochlioides.
Screening chemical compounds, we found that a xenoestrogen, bisphenol A, showed potent repellent activity against the zoospores of Aphanomyces cochlioides. Based on this finding, we tested a number of androgenic and estrogenic compounds (e.g. testosterone, progesterone, estradiols, diethylstilbestrol, estrone, estriol, pregnenolone, dienestrol etc.) on the motility behavior of A. cochlioides zo...
متن کاملNicotinamide and structurally related compounds show halting activity against zoospores of the phytopathogenic fungus Aphanomyces cochlioides.
In a survey of plant secondary metabolites regulating the behavior of phytopathogenic Aphanomyces cochlioides zoospores, we found that leaf extracts of Amaranthus gangeticus and cotyledon extracts of pea (Pisum sativum) remarkably halted the motility of zoospores. Bioassay-directed fractionation of A. gangeticus and pea constituents revealed that the halting activity was dependent on a single c...
متن کامل2,4-Diacetylphloroglucinol suppresses zoosporogenesis and impairs motility of Peronosporomycete zoospores
2,4-Diacetylphloroglucinol (DAPG) produced by Pseudomonas fluorescens, shows toxicity to many microorganisms including fungi, bacteria, and peronosporomycetes. Zoosporogenesis and motility of zoospores are critical for a complete disease cycle and pathogenicity of the peronosporomycete phytopathogens. The aim of this study was to test the effects of DAPG and its derivatives on zoosporogenesis a...
